Critics have been pointing fingers at Varisu (Vaarasudu) ever since the movie's trailer debuted. After the movie was released, it later became more significant to trolls. Many people on social media claimed that Varisu is a mashup of several films, and tamil critics criticised it by likening it to a soap opera. The "serial" parallels have upset filmmaker Vamshi Paidipally. Vamshi Paidipally voiced his distress about those remarks in a recent interview. He mocked the frequent remarks by inquiring if they were aware of how challenging it is to produce a film today.

Do you realise how much effort goes into making each movie? It's not a joke, folks. One of India's biggest celebrities is Vijay. Even though he is in that position, he puts a lot of effort into each movie. A hero, a producer, other artists, and technicians had to make many sacrifices for a movie. How are movies and serials comparable? And why do you feel the need to denigrate serials? We must respect serials because they are artistic work as well.

Don't you realise how many members of a household spend their evenings riveted to serials? I left my software career and came here to pursue my dream of becoming a filmmaker. I am aware of who I am and where I am in this situation. If I take these criticisms seriously, I would be demeaning my line of work. Vamshi Paidipally argued that criticism has to be helpful but not in this manner.
