The kerala Story, a contentious movie directed by Sudipto Sen, opened in theatres on friday under criticism for what critics claim are factual errors. Despite receiving negative reviews upon release, the movie seems to have captured audiences' interest based on the strong start it had at the box office.

The kerala Story made Rs 7.5 cr on friday, according to market watcher Sacnilk's preliminary calculations. According to bollywood Hungama, the three national chains PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis contributed Rs 4 crore. The theatre owners have added more showings of the movie due to the positive reception it has received from viewers, and during the weekend, it is anticipated that ticket sales will increase.

The kerala Story, starring adah sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and sonia Balani, was formally characterised earlier as the tale of more than 32,000 kerala women who were supposedly radicalised by Islamic fundamentalists. However, once online protests against the false information the movie was disseminating started, the number was reduced from 32,000 to three.

The kerala Story is one of the top five opening weekends of 2023 thus far in terms of box office earnings. Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which earned Rs 55 crore, is at the top of the list, followed by Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Rs 15.81 crore, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Rs 15.7 crore, and Rs 11.2 crore for Bholaa. The kerala Story's $2.55 million opening was superior to Akshay Kumar's Selfie.
