However, 'Phule' is not the only one in the list of films released amid controversy. This year, Vicky Kaushal's 'Chhava' and kangana Ranaut's 'Emergency' and other films are also included.

Pratik gandhi and patralekha starrer Anant Mahadevan's film 'Phule' was released in theaters on 25 April. The film is getting mixed responses from the audience and critics. There was outrage across the country regarding 'Phule'. It was earlier scheduled to be released on April 10, but its date was postponed due to the controversy.
The Brahmin community objected to the film and accused it of insulting them, after the protest the censor board made several cuts in the film and the film finally succeeded in coming to the audience in theaters. At the same time, producer-director Anurag Kashyap's statement on Brahmins was also in controversy.
'Phule' is based on the life of social worker Jyotirao Govindrao Phule and his wife Savitribai Phule, who fought against caste discrimination and for women's right to education. Actor Pratik gandhi played the role of mahatma Phule in the film. At the same time, patralekha is playing the role of Savitribai Phule.
There was controversy over Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' as well.
Controversies also arose over the action film 'Jaat' starring Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, and other seasoned stars. The Christian community expressed displeasure over a scene in the film released in theaters on April 10 and also lodged an FIR against the film team. The community alleged that the Christian community was insulted in the film and religious sentiments were hurt. However, the makers removed the controversial scene from the film. 'Jaat' has joined the 100 crore club.
Blockbuster 'Chhava' was also surrounded by controversies
Vicky Kaushal and rashmika Mandanna's 'Chhava' is also included in the list of films released in theaters amid controversies. The film based on the life and bravery of Sambhaji Maharaj, son of shivaji Maharaj, proved to be the biggest hit of the year 2025. The controversy that started after the release of the film's trailer continued till the release of the film.
Along with protesting against Sambhaji Maharaj's dance in a song, the film's story was accused of tampering with historical facts. Many organizations in the country along with Maharashtra lodged objections to this. The censor board made several cuts in the film. 'Chhava' was successful in earning more than Rs 500 crore in india alone.
Kangana's film also faced controversy
Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency', released on January 17 this year, also got embroiled in controversy. The film directed and starring kangana ranaut, was seen in the role of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. There was a lot of controversy over the release of the film based on the 'Emergency' imposed by the former PM in the year 1975.
The protesters were accused of tampering with historical facts. Along with kangana ranaut, 'Emergency' featured other actors including Anupam Kher, mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish kaushik in important roles. kangana Ranaut's acting in the film was highly praised. However, the box office collection of the film was not special.
