Strong Attack on the election Commission

Congress leader and leader of the Opposition rahul gandhi sharply criticized the election commission of india (ECI) regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

He claimed the process has created nationwide chaos rather than improving the electoral system.

According to gandhi, the SIR is not a reform, but “an imposed oppression” being forced on citizens.

Allegations of Mismanagement and Hardship

Gandhi stated that the ECI has devised a system requiring citizens to search through thousands of scanned pages of 22-year-old voter lists just to find their names.

He argued that india is technologically advanced, yet the election commission continues to rely on outdated, paper-heavy methods.

The congress MP accused the ECI of intentionally creating a “jungle of paperwork”, making the process unnecessarily difficult and inaccessible.

Deaths of BLOs and Administrative Pressure

Rahul gandhi highlighted that within three weeks, 16 booth-level officers (BLOs) reportedly lost their lives due to stress, heart attacks, or suicide linked to pressure from SIR duties.

He described these deaths as “collateral damage” that the authorities are ignoring.

Gandhi argued that the rushed 30-day timeline for such an extensive revision shows a lack of concern for both citizens and officials.

Accusations of Vote Manipulation

Gandhi alleged that the SIR process is designed to exhaust genuine voters, making it harder for them to verify their inclusion in the electoral rolls.

He claimed that this exhaustion benefits those who aim to manipulate or steal votes.

According to him, the opaque process prevents transparency and enables unabated vote theft.

Call for Transparency and Accountability

Gandhi insisted that if the ECI were sincere, it would create digital, searchable, and machine-readable voter lists.

He called for a more transparent system that prioritizes voter convenience rather than burdensome procedures.

Concluding his statement, he said that the current SIR process represents a deliberate conspiracy, sacrificing democracy to maintain power.
