Film Overview
The kannada blockbuster “Kantara: Chapter 1”, released on october 2, has become a massive success, crossing the ₹600 crore mark at the box office. The film has deeply resonated with audiences for its strong cultural and spiritual themes.
Rishabh Shetty’s Clarification
Actor-director rishabh Shetty addressed ongoing misconceptions about the film, stating that it does not promote any ideology or propaganda.
He emphasized that the story is rooted in faith, folklore, and human connection with nature.
According to him, the film’s essence lies in awakening inner emotions and reflecting the soul of Indianness rather than aligning with any political narrative.
Spiritual Symbolism in the Film
Rishabh explained that spirituality is an integral part of his life, not a performance.
“My mother is deeply spiritual, and worship has always been part of our lives,” he said.
He added that he begins every shoot by worshipping the camera, symbolizing faith and devotion.
The director compared the cinematic experience of Kantara to a spiritual journey, where the audience decides their own interpretation.
Challenges in Storytelling
Crafting the story for Chapter 1 was a major challenge, as it is more complex and layered than the 2022 original.
Set in pre-colonial Karnataka, it portrays the conflict between tribal communities and a tyrannical king.
The team undertook extensive research to authentically depict folklore and history.
Expanding the Kantara Universe
Rishabh hinted that the Kantara universe will continue with more stories in the future.
He also announced his upcoming project, “Jai Hanuman,” expected to begin shooting next year.
