Aamir Khan has once again spoken about his long-cherished dream of making Mahabharata, calling it the most ambitious and sensitive project of his career.
The actor made it clear that the film will only be made when he feels fully prepared, as he does not want to compromise on quality or intent.
“It’s a Huge Responsibility,” Says Aamir
In an interview with News18, Aamir described the Mahabharata as deeply rooted in indian culture and identity.
He said the epic is not just a story but something that lives in the hearts of Indians.
According to him, almost every indian has either read the Bhagavad Gita or grown up listening to stories from the Mahabharata, often narrated by elders at home.
Fear of Doing a “Bad Job”
Aamir openly admitted that his biggest fear is doing injustice to the epic.
He believes that while a filmmaker can disappoint Mahabharata by poor execution, the epic itself can never disappoint its audience.
This belief is one of the main reasons why he is taking years to plan and reflect before starting the project.
Pride of indian Storytelling
Aamir stated that Mahabharata is the “mother of all fantasies,” even bigger in scope than major hollywood spectacles.
He compared its scale and imagination to global blockbusters like Avatar, saying indian mythology already contains stories far richer and grander.
He wants indians to feel proud when the film is finally made, both culturally and cinematically.
Why the Delay Is Intentional
The actor emphasized that the delay is not due to a lack of interest but due to the seriousness of the subject.
He wants to ensure that the storytelling, casting, visuals, and emotions truly honor the epic.
For Aamir, rushing such a project would mean risking its soul.
Aamir Khan’s Recent Work
On the professional front, Aamir was last seen in Taare Zameen Par, which remains one of his most loved films.
While fans eagerly await Mahabharata, Aamir’s words suggest that the epic will arrive only when he feels it can be made with absolute honesty and excellence.
