Unlike the polls in West Bengal where people voted under a scorching sun, but the polling day in Tamil Nadu and the city was pleasant with overnight rain and overcast conditions drawing voters out of their homes.


A homemaker M Vatsala of Mylapore, Chennai has told that voters in many areas has walked to the polling booths instead of hailing a cab or auto rickshaw and during previous elections, they would rush to the booths at 7am to avoid the heat and this time, it has turned out to be a fun outing.


Chennai has recorded only 1mm rainfall and the southern districts has received moderate rainfall recording a maximum of 39mm at Aduthurai in Thanjavur district, Thuvakudi in Tiruchy has received 23mm, Neyveli in Cuddalore 36mm, and Paiyur in Krishnagiri 27mm.


The Meteorological office has forecasted cloudy skies and possibility of rain in the next few days and the low pressure area on the Bay of Bengal is currently positioned between Gulf of Mannar and Jaffna and may turn into a depression during the next 24 hours.
