Municipal bodies across the state of andhra pradesh will be levying user charges on garbage collection from today i.e, Thursday. The Clean Andhra Pradesh(CLAP) project first phase will be launched in 45 cities, which include 29 municipalities  and 16 municipal corporations

The department of municipal administration has announced that  every household will have to pay Rs120 per month for garbage collection, while in notified slum areas the charges will be Rs30 per month.

Health department authorities are educating citizens on garbage segregation at homes. The civic bodies are distributing dustbins to every household. The Vijaywada Municiapal Corporation(VMC)  has developed a wallet-based payment system for billing  with a private partner. The VMC will collect garbage charges using swiping machines which are already procured

Meanwhile some civic associations and Opposition parties are planning to stage protest outside vijayawada Municipal Corporation against the garbage collection charges. The oppostion accused the ruling party of betraying the public with false promises during the elections.

tdp Corporator Kesineni swetha said "YCP had promised that the proposed garbage collection charges will be withdrawn if they win the elections. But now they are escaping from their promises and putting burden on the public."
