TS Police have sought four types of vehicles from the government for better maintenance of law and order in the wake of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao’s insistence on a makeover for the department as part of the moves to improve the brand image of the city. At a review meeting on modernisation of police force, the top police brass apprised the Chief Minister that the four categories of vehicles that the department required were: Heavy vehicles (Buses, Trucks and Troop-Carriers), Medium and Light Vehicles (jeeps and cars), Two-Wheelers and Special Purpose Vehicles, according to an official press release. Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and other senior officials presented to the CM various types of vehicles that should constitute the proposed new fleet of vehicles. The DGP informed the CM that the mobility was measured in terms of the ability of the police force of a unit to move at once. “Effcive and efficient police performance is directly linked to their mobility. Quick response in real time to law and order situations helps to preserve the precious lives of people and to protect public and private property besides instilling confidence and sense of security among the public”, he said. Sharma further said that the police department was facing severe problems due to the acute shortage of vehicles and also by being burdened with a number of unserviceable and condemned vehicles. He also suggested that in order to change the orientation of the personnel handling the vehicles training in various aspects needed to be provided at the Dr.Marri Channa Reddy Institute of HRD or at the APPA. KCR felt that there had to be one central commandant for Hyderabad-Cyberabad. Hyderabad brand image had to be developed and best examples from countries like US and UK needed to be taken into consideration.
