You have to watch this video. It’s going nuclear for all the wrong reasons.

At the official Showa 100th Anniversary Ceremony — a solemn national event with Emperor and Empress in attendance — prime minister Sanae Takaichi decided the spotlight wasn’t bright enough. So she turned it into her personal stage. Wild clapping. Over-the-top hand gestures. Big goofy grins. Pointing dramatically. Body swaying like she’s at a pop concert instead of standing two steps from Japan’s Imperial family.

Let that sink in.

This wasn’t some casual rally. It was “Showa Day,” honoring a century of history, with the Emperor and Empress present, plus dignitaries from every corner of society. Everyone else is composed, respectful, almost invisible. Takaichi? She’s out here doing the absolute most — smiling ear-to-ear, throwing shapes, basically screaming “look at me” in the most sacred setting possible.

The internet is roasting her alive, and honestly, it’s brutal but fair. “What kind of education did she get?” “She has zero sense of place or decorum.” “Even the lady-in-waiting behind her looks like she’s trying not to stare.” One after another, Japanese netizens are calling it exactly what it is: cheap, self-absorbed, and downright embarrassing for the country.

This isn’t just bad optics. It’s a glaring display of someone who thinks the highest office in japan is her personal runway. The same leader who’s supposed to represent dignity and gravitas just proved she can’t even sit still when the Emperor is right there. Protocol? Manners? Respect for the occasion? All tossed aside so she could chase clout.

Japan deserves better than a prime minister who treats a historic national ceremony like her TikTok moment. The video says it all — and the shame is spreading fast.
