Shankar Pamarthy, noted Cartoonist of Sakshi new spaper , who hails from Nagireddypalli village in Nalgonda district, has won the prestigious World Press Cartoon Grand Prix Award 2014. The Portugal award, considered cartoonist's Nobel, was given to him for his caricature of legendary Nelson Mandela that was published on December 6, 2013. His caricature of Nelson Mandela got the first prize in the entries got from 64 countries around the world for the year This was the Fourth international award for Shankar and he is the first Asian to win the prestigious prize. The Award carries a cash reward of 10,000 Euros (About Rs. 8,00,000). The award would be given away in an International Exhibition to be held in November in Portugal. Sankar has been working with Sakshi for the past eight years and has won several international awards. Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated ‘Sakshi’ cartoonist Sankar for getting an international award.  “I am very happy to know that Sankar was chosen for the award,” said KCR.  His caricatures on prominent people like Barack Obama, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, A. R. Rahman, Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Mike Tyson, M. S. Subbulakshmi, Abdul Kalam, Charlie Chaplin, Dalai Lama, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro, Luciano Pavarotti, Yasser Arafat, Aung San Suu Kyi etc., received wide accolades and prominence to him.
