Electricity tariff increase, but... EB explanation..!?

Notice has been issued that the electricity bill has been hiked by 13 paise to 21 paise per unit only for commercial and industrial establishments. The electricity Board has clarified that there is no increase in electricity charges for household connections and all free electricity concessions will continue. In other words, the tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation have informed us that the electricity tariff has been increased from 13 paise to 21 paise per unit only for commercial and industrial establishments. In a statement released by the tamil Nadu electricity Board due to the inefficient management of the previous regime, the overall financial condition of the tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation was badly affected. Also, as per the order of the Union government on november 9, 2021, it has been made mandatory to immediately collect the increase in electricity fuel and purchase price from the consumers. Also, as per the Union government order in december 2022, this price increase should be collected from the consumers on a monthly basis by increasing the electricity bill. In order to reduce the burden caused by this price increase, the tamil Nadu electricity Regulatory Commission last year in September. On the 9th, it had given tariff hikes for 5 years from 2022-23 to 2026-27 under Multi-Year electricity Tariff (MYT).
It has announced the following rate hikes with effect from 1st July every year for the next 4 years. Accordingly annually. Consumer Price Inflation is calculated by comparing the Consumer Price Index for the month of april with the Price Index for the month of april of the previous year or 6%, whichever is less, should be implemented.
Chief minister advice...

According to this, for the month of July 2023, if calculated according to the Consumer Price Index numbers of april 2022 and april 2023, the electricity tariff should be hiked by 4.7 percent. The Chief minister, who inspected the practice, advised that while implementing the order of the tamil Nadu Regulatory Commission, it should be ensured that the public is not harmed. Accordingly, the rate of fare hike has been revised and while the fare was hiked in september last year, the price index of august 2022 has been taken into account instead of the price index of april 2022.

By this decision,

1. There will be no increase in charges for domestic connections.

2. Free electricity concessions for agricultural connections, cottage connections, and 100 units of free electricity for houses, handlooms, power looms, etc. will continue to be provided.

3. electricity tariff hike will be minimal from 13 paise to 21 paise per unit only for commercial and industrial establishments.

How much increase in other states?

This year in other states of our country electricity charges have been increased for all electricity connections including home connections. Compared to these hikes, electricity charges for domestic connections in tamil Nadu - maharashtra (62 paisa/unit), karnataka (70 paisa/unit), haryana (72 paisa/unit), madhya pradesh (33 paisa/unit), bihar (147 paisa/unit) Not only has it not been hiked, it is noteworthy that the rates have been hiked to a minimal extent for commercial and industrial electricity connections.
