The BJP-Shiva Sena government appears to be undecided about allowing the BRS to drop rose petals from helicopters on warkaris during the conclusion of the important pilgrimage at Pandharpur on Tuesday, which is a sign of its unease over Bharat Rashtra Samithi party President K Chandrashekhar Rao's visit to Maharashtra. Despite the fact that BRS officials made their request well in advance, according to party insiders, the police reportedly did not answer until late on monday night and may yet refuse permission.

The warkaris travel to Pandharpur for a month-long pilgrimage each year. Maharashtrian devotees travel hundreds of kilometres while ardently reciting the Lord Vitthal chants. They come from both rural and urban locations. The finale of the trip this year will take place on june 29 during the auspicious Ashada Ekadashi festival. The temple witnesses a staggering number of over 10 lakh warkaris during this period.

On this auspicious occasion, BRS President and chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is expected to visit the temple and conduct a special puja for Lord Vitthal. He will be accompanied by ministers and other officials. The BRS leadership had planned to use three helicopters to drop 1,000 kg of rose petals on the warkaris as a sign of respect for them. However, until late on monday night, the required clearances were not given.

Prior to the 2024 lok sabha elections, the BRS has steadily gained ground in Maharashtra. The party has held large-scale rallies in the maharashtra areas of Marathwada and Vidarbha, which has alarmed other political groups in the state. The BRS has launched a comprehensive outreach campaign to strengthen its position and has made every effort to interact with the community, especially farmers.

At the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, Chandrashekhar Rao recently opened the BRS office and staged a public rally. As part of its development ambitions, the BRS also intends to open more offices in Mumbai, Pune, and Aurangabad.

Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of maharashtra, responded to the BRS trip by saying that anybody who want to go to the Pandharpur temple to worship Lord Vitthal is welcome. "We welcome the telangana chief minister and his cabinet Ministers if they are visiting Pandharpur as pilgrims to seek darshan. The absence of politics during your visit to Pandharpur is our main concern. In a covert reference to the BJP's position on the BRS's presence in maharashtra, he told reporters that "anyone who comes here should be a devotee."
