Chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao is apparently trying to meet the delayed unemployment benefit, which was a significant BRS electoral plank of 2018. This comes after addressing a number of long-standing requests over the previous several months, according to party insiders. The BRS has recently delivered on a number of pledges, including, among others, the cancellation of agricultural loans, the distribution of podu land patta, the regularisation of VRAs, and the incorporation of TSRTC into the state government.

If the unemployment benefit of Rs 3,016 per month is increased at this time, the BRS is hoping that it would attract support from young people and the jobless for the approaching assembly elections. In a manner similar to the current application processes for the bc Bandhu, Minority Bandhu, and Gruha lakshmi programmes, the government is expected to request applications from unemployed young people.

The chief minister had said that he has "many weapons" in his armoury for the 2018 assembly elections, citing programmes like bc Bandhu, Gruha lakshmi, etc. at the just finished Monsoon Session of the Legislature. Rao made the claim in response to the congress party's pledge to raise Aasara's pension from Rs 3,016 to Rs 4,016 if elected to power.

According to BRS sources, the congress and bjp have been left in the dark because the state administration has stepped up execution of the pledges made during the 2018 assembly elections while opposition parties have been criticising the chief minister for breaking them. "Now is the right moment to fulfil another important election pledge, the unemployment stipend, on which the cm is diligently working. According to a BRS insider, if the jobless benefit pledge is kept, opposition parties won't have any significant issues with which to criticise the BRS administration.

The chief minister is discovering that he needs to develop policies for accepting applications from young people who are jobless as well as the standards that must be set with regard to age restrictions, educational requirements, and precise criteria to designate the "unemployed." In different phases of recruitment at the moment, the state government declared that 80,000 openings in various departments will be filled through direct recruitment tests. These job alerts and the unemployment benefit are two ways the ruling party is trying to connect with young people and the jobless, according to sources.
