The PRLI scheme's foundation was established on june 11, 2015, by chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. The PRLI will be implemented in two stages. Phase I would see the delivery of drinking water to 1226 communities over 70 mandals, while Phase II will deal with the need for irrigation in areas at risk of drought.
Anjanagiri (Narlapur), Veeranjaneya (Yedula), Venkatadri (Vattem), Kurumurthyraya (Karivena), Udandapur, and KP Lakshmidevipally are the six balancing reservoirs that are being built as part of Phase I. Additionally, five steps of lifting 90 tmc from the srisailam reservoir's riverbank during the flood season must be built.
Easier Said than Done
This is not a simple job. In contrast to the average ground level of arable land, which ranges from 270 to 660 metres above mean sea level (MAMSL), the River krishna travels through the former mahabubnagar district over a distance of 240 km. Through the use of a lift irrigation system, krishna water may be used to provide drinking water to 1226 communities spread across 70 mandals and to develop irrigation potential in the drought-prone districts of mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Nagarkurnool, and Nalgonda.
As a result, efforts are currently being made to lift water from the 250-meter-high srisailam Reservoir to the roughly 670-meter-high KP Lakshmideviaplly Reservoir. We'll carry out this in phases. Eight 145MW pumps would first transport water through tunnels from srisailam reservoir to Anjanagiri (Narlapur) reservoir. Nearly two tmcft may be lifted daily by these pumps.
Water will be extracted from the Anjanagiri reservoir and then transported to the Veeranjaneya, Venkatadri, Kurumurthraya, Udandapur, and lastly the KP Lakshmidevipally reservoirs. The State government currently has three 400/11 KV substations, 62 km of tunnels, pump houses, surge pools, open canals, and approach channels built. To irrigate a command area of 4,97,976 hectares of upland areas encompassed by the 1,226 communities, work has been planned for Phase-II to harness water stored in the reservoirs and build 13 main canals.
