ISRO chief somnath explained that there is no controversy in naming the Chandrayaan-3 landing site as Shivashakti node. Subsequently, the Pragyan rover successfully landed on the moon from the vikram lander and continues its research. Meanwhile, prime minister Modi named the spot where Chandrayaan-2 crashed into its lander as Tiranga Point and the spot where Chandrayaan-3 landed as Shiv shakti Point. The participation of women in the Chandrayaan-3 program is also important. Therefore, the name Shivashakti is a testimony to their dedication and the name Tiranga is to remind us that no defeat is final, PM Modi said. Also, prime minister Modi announced that august 23, when the chandrayaan 3 lander set foot on the moon, will be celebrated as National Space Day from now on.

Prime minister Modi's naming of Chandrayaan-3 landing site as Shivashakti Node has sparked controversy. Criticisms are also being made that the moon's successful journey is being given a religious tinge. Senior congress leader Rashid Alvi has opined that Modi has no authority to name the aspect of the moon.

Also, planets and asteroids are given names of gods. Not only the indian mythological names but also the mythological names of many countries have been kept. But, it is not possible to do so on the moon. After the establishment of the international Astronomical Society, the name can be given only according to the rules of that society. According to the international Astronomical Union rules, there are many rules for naming specific places on the moon; After the naming rules are established, those rules dictate what names can be given to the lunar surface. Accordingly, it is argued that the name cannot be given as shiva Shakti. In this situation, isro chief somnath explained that there is no controversy in naming the place where Chandrayaan-3 landed as Shivashakti node. He has also stated that there are precedents for assigning names to aspects of the moon.

ISRO chief somnath met the media after having darshan of Swami at Poornamikavu-Bhadrakali temple in Venganoor. Speaking then, he said that india has already given some names to the lunar regions and this is the tradition followed by the countries that will travel to the moon. “This is not the first time the name has been given. indian names already exist. The moon has the Sarabai crater. Each country can give their names. Naming is a tradition. There is no dispute on this matter.” somnath has explained.
