It will further increase awareness and consumption, create new markets internationally to increase exports, promote research and development in new products, and promote our traditional knowledge for value-added turmeric products, the National turmeric Board will focus. In particular, it will focus on capacity building of turmeric producers, which will benefit more through value addition. In 2022-23, india cultivated 3.24 lakh hectares of turmeric and produced 11.61 lakh tonnes (more than 75% of global turmeric production). More than 30 varieties of turmeric are cultivated in india and it is cultivated in more than 20 states of the country. The states of Maharashtra, Telangana, karnataka and tamil Nadu are major producers of turmeric.
India's share in global turmeric trade is 62%. In 2022-23, 1.534 lakh tonnes of turmeric and turmeric products valued at USD 207.45 million have been exported by more than 380 exporters. Currently, with the establishment of the National turmeric Board, through its activities, the export of turmeric is expected to touch USD 1 billion by 2030.
