In 2012, the anti-bribery department filed a case against me. Periyasamy, who was the Housing minister during the DMK regime during the last 2006-2011 period, illegally allotted a house belonging to the Housing Board to Ganesan, the bodyguard of the then chief minister Karunanidhi, in 2008.
While the investigation of this case was going on for a long time, I. Periyaswamy filed a petition in the Special court for MPs and MLAs seeking to acquit himself from the Housing Board malpractice case. The special court that investigated this, released I. Periyasamy and ordered in march 2023.
The anti-bribery department did not appeal against this. However, madras high court Judge anand venkatesh voluntarily took up the case against minister I. Periyaswamy canceled the verdict given by the special court and ordered to set aside I. Periyaswamy's decision. He ordered a special court to rehear the case. Meanwhile, I. Periyasamy appealed to the supreme court against the judgment of the madras high court judge. In which, the single judge has decided the case without examining the proper reasons. Therefore, it was requested that the order of the Single Judge of the madras high court should be quashed and the said order should be stayed.
In this situation, the supreme court heard the appeal of minister I. Periyaswamy ordered an interim stay on the investigation of the housing facility board fraud case against minister I. Periyaswamy. The supreme court has placed an interim stay on the madras high court judgment which ordered the investigation of the case against minister I. Periyasamy is to be completed within three months. The supreme court judges ordered an interim stay on the trial of the case in the lower court pending the completion of the hearing on the appeal in the supreme Court.
