Heavy rain in Kanyakumari district: Flood warning issued!

Heavy rains in Kanyakumari district have caused flooding in rivers.Kanyakumari district received heavy rains at dawn due to atmospheric circulation in south kerala and adjoining areas. The district recorded maximum rainfall of 103.02 mm in Mailadi. Due to the release of 2178 cubic feet of water per second from the Pachiparai Dam, the rivers are flooded. Also, a flood warning has been issued. The district administration has advised the people of coastal areas to move to safer places.

A strong low pressure area over the Bay of bengal has strengthened into a low pressure area and turned into a storm. The storm has been named Rimal. Kanyakumari district received heavy rains due to this storm and due to atmospheric circulation in adjoining areas of South Kerala. Due to the heavy rain especially in the Western Ghats, the maximum rainfall of 103.02 mm was recorded in Mailadi in the district. Similarly, 85 mm of rain has been recorded in Mambazathar, 84 mm of rain in Anaiketang and 82 mm of rain in Balamore.

Due to heavy rains, 4258 cubic feet per second of water is flowing into Pachiparai and Perunjani dams, while 2178 cubic feet per second is being released from the dam. Due to this, floods have occurred in the rivers and a flood warning has been issued. Also, the district administration has advised the people of coastal areas to go to safer places.
