maharashtra chief minister devendra fadnavis on thursday (May 29) rejected the opposition's claim. He made it clear that no funds have been taken from other departments for the government's flagship scheme for women 'Ladki Behen Yojana'. He also said that those who do not understand the budget are making baseless claims.
chief minister fadnavis, while talking to reporters in Parbhani, said, "The funds for this scheme were distributed through the Tribal Affairs and Social Justice departments and it was as per the budgetary rules. Under this scheme, eligible poor women get Rs 1,500 monthly, according to budgetary rules, funds should be reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and scheduled tribes (ST). He said that maximum funds should be set aside for individual benefit schemes and some funds should be set aside for infrastructure development."
What do the rules say?
cm fadnavis said, "These allegations are wrong. Only those who do not understand the budget can make such allegations. The rules say that the fund should be reserved for SC/ST. More funds should be reserved for personal benefit schemes and some infrastructure development. The cm said that the Ladki Bahin scheme comes under the category of giving personal benefits to the beneficiaries. Therefore, if you give money to this scheme, then according to the budgetary rules, it has to be shown under the Department of Tribal Affairs and the Department of Social Justice.
'Ajit Pawar has clarified'
He stressed that deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who holds the Finance Department, has already given clarification in this matter. fadnavis said that the budget of the Tribal Affairs and Social Justice departments has been increased by about 1.45 times in 2025-26. This (Ladki Bahin Fund distributed through other departments) is a kind of accounting. No money has been diverted.
