
Om Birla on JPC Probe: ‘No party Has Officially Boycotted’
Speaker Om Birla’s Statement
Lok Sabha Speaker om birla stated that no political party has submitted a written notice of boycotting the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
His comment comes amid growing opposition to the three newly introduced bills.
Parties Express Verbal Boycott
Trinamool congress (TMC), Samajwadi party, shiv sena (Uddhav faction), and aam aadmi party (AAP) have publicly refused participation in the JPC.
Congress has yet to clarify its position on the matter.
Three Controversial Bills Introduced
On the last day of the monsoon session, home minister amit shah introduced:
Union Territories (Amendment) Bill
Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill
Jammu and kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill
The bills propose that any Prime minister, Chief minister, or minister arrested for 30 consecutive days on serious charges would be removed from office.
Request to Nominate MPs
Om Birla said he has requested political parties to send names of their MPs for the JPC.
The JPC will have 21 lok sabha members and 10 rajya sabha members.
Speaker Defends Committee System
Birla emphasized that parliamentary committees are above politics.
Members are free to express their views during the deliberations.
Opposition's Stand
Opposition parties have termed the bills as unconstitutional.
Accuse the government of using them to target state leaders and suppress political rivals.
