Larsen & Toubro, the concessionaire which has been building the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), as part of building pressure on the state government for not finalizing realignment proposals, has revealed recently that the project may not be completed as stated earlier, i.e. July 2017 deadline.

V B Gadgil, chief executive and managing director of L&T Metro Rail has reportedly said that the project launch would be unlikely on July 4, 2017, the marked deadline as per concessionaire agreement. The delay is also being attributed to other factors such as non-availability of right of way (RoW) which has been hampering the works.

The TRS government has requested for realignment at Sultan Bazaar and the areas near Assembly, while L&T had submitted proposals in this regard in May. Now even if the ruling government approves the alignment change proposals given by L&T immediately, it may take at least a year.

The company has reportedly brought up the issue during the weekly coordination meetings with various departments of the government but the government hasn’t made any headway on this issue. Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) MD NVS Reddy is also not ruling out possibility of this project missing the deadline.
