If your smartphone was stolen a few years ago, now you have a chance to get it back. You will get your phone directly through courier. This has been made possible due to the government's Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, which is now playing an important role in dealing with mobile theft incidents. Many smartphone users recently reported that they are getting their 2-3 year old stolen mobile phones back. This is not a miracle, but the result of a technology working under the Sanchar Saathi portal, which has been implemented by the Ministry of Telecom.

What is CEIR and how does it work?

CEIR is a national system that allows users to report their lost mobile. Once an IMEI number is blocked, it becomes impossible for that device to connect to the network. After this, it becomes impossible to use the mobile again or sell it again. Under this initiative, the police and the telecom department work together to trace mobile phones. When the phones are recovered, they are sent to the user's address through courier. In a recent operation by the ghaziabad police, about 1200 stolen or lost smartphones have been recovered using CEIR, which have been successfully returned to users in several states.

Lost phones will be returned through Sanchar Saathi

The Sanchar Saathi portal launched by the government and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system working under it have offered an effective solution to the problem of mobile theft. With the help of this portal, citizens can block their lost smartphones, which will prevent misuse of the phone and make it easier to trace it. This system not only ensures data security, but also speeds up the recovery process.
