Before the monsoon, the delhi government has made full preparations to free the capital from waterlogging. This time, under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD) of the delhi government and Water minister Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, responsibility has been fixed at every waterlogging point and a clear order has been given that if water fills up anywhere during the rain, then the concerned engineer will be suspended.

According to the PWD, this time 445 waterlogging points have been marked as per the data shared by the delhi Traffic Police. The responsibility of 335 of these points comes under the PWD. AE and JE level engineers have been appointed as local in-charges at all these points, who will ensure drainage, availability of equipment and emergency preparedness.

Out of these, 7 major points will be monitored by the Engineer-in-Chief himself. The project engineer has been made the "Review Officer" at every point, while the pump operators will be deployed 24x7 in three shifts. Temporary accommodation is also being arranged for them during the monsoon.

PWD and Water minister of delhi government, Pravesh Verma has warned that if negligence is found at any point, strict action will be taken against the responsible engineer. "Making delhi free from waterlogging is not just a goal, it is a responsibility," along with this, the work of cleaning the drainage system in delhi is also going on at a fast pace.

Desilting work has been started by dividing delhi into 35 zones. So far, 50 kilometers of drains have been cleaned and the target is to clean 1400 kilometers by May 31. The PWD report will be sent to minister Pravesh Verma daily. The government claims that delhi will be fully ready before the first monsoon rain.
