
A video of singer Sonu Nigam is going viral from his recent live performance at east Factor College, Bengaluru. In the course of the concert, a fan screamed at him, disturbing a track in Kannada.
The singer paused, addressed the crowd, and humbly expressed his love for the language. He stated he respects the humans of Karnataka; however, he felt 'threatened' via the tone of the fan. He also recalled the pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives, and stated, "Yahi kaaran hai, pahalgam mein jo hua hai na? Yahi kaaran hai jo kar rahe ho, jo kiya tha na abhi? (This is the purpose for what happened in Pahalgam. That is the purpose... what you did simply now."
The fifty-one-year-old first paused his performance to express his love for the kannada language and the people of the country. He stated in Hindi, "I've sung songs in all languages. But the quality songs that I have sung in my life are kannada songs. Major, aapke beech mein jab bhi aata hoon, bohut pyaar se aata hoon. shows toh roz karte hain hum log, lekin jab kabhi bhi karnataka mein kahi bhi suggests hote hain hum bohut izzat se aate hai kyuki aap logo ne humein apna pariwaar maan hail (each time I come in the front of you, I come with a lot of love. We do indicate every day; however, on every occasion we perform everywhere in karnataka, we come with appreciation because you have made us feel like part of your family".
Nigam then went on to express explicit unhappiness with the fan's behavior. "Mujhe accha nahi laga ki waha ek ladka jiski umar, jitni uske umar nahi hogi, use pehle toh most important kannada gaane ga raha hoon (I didn't like the boy whose age... I have been singing kannada songs earlier than he was born). He was so rudely threatening me, 'Kannada, Kannad'a."
The singer then shared how he values his kannada enthusiasts. "Foremost, puri duniya mein jaha bhi jata hoon, fundamental humesha bolta hoon major, sabko bolta hoon predominant, 14,000 ki target market hogi usme ek awaaz aati hai, 'Kannada.' Toh predominant unke liye, us ek Kannadiga ok liye essential kuch line Kannadiga k gaata hoon. primary itni izzat karta hoon aapki, itna pyaar karta hoon. So thoda sa rehna chahiye, aesa nahi karna chahiye aapko (anywhere I am going in the global, I tell anyone, in a crowd of 14,000, there will be one kannada voice. So, I sing for that one Kannadiga fan. I love and recognize you so much. You should not behave like this."
The crowd regarded them as silent whilst Nigam became addressing them at some stage in the live performance. He reportedly resumed his overall performance thereafter.
Sonu Nigam commenced his making a song profession in the early nineties and became famous with songs like 'Sandese Aate Hain' and 'Yeh dil Deewana.' Apart from Hindi, he also sang in many nearby languages, including kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Odia, Assamese, Malayalam, Gujarati, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Tulu, Maithili, and Manipuri.
