Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in india, has hit controversy after the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) raised objections against an unauthorised tournament in Jammu. Recognised by the Ministry of youth Affairs & sports (MYAS) and the Sports Authority of india (SAI), IPA is the sole National sports Federation for the game. Here’s what unfolded:

1. IPA Identifies the Culprits

The IPA accused the All india Pickleball Association (AIPA) and the Jammu & kashmir Amateur Pickleball Association (JKAPA) of organising an unauthorised tournament.

According to IPA, these bodies are not legally recognised and have no affiliation with the national governing body.

2. Warning Against Misrepresentation

IPA has issued a public advisory warning players, coaches, and enthusiasts not to fall prey to misrepresentation.

They clarified that only tournaments approved by IPA are valid for official rankings and recognition.

3. National Federation’s Exclusive Authority

As per MYAS and SAI, IPA is the only body authorised to regulate, promote, and govern pickleball in India.

Any other organisation conducting events under similar names is misleading the public and athletes.

4. Impact on Players

Players participating in unauthorised tournaments risk being barred from official events.

They could also lose out on opportunities to represent india in international pickleball championships.

5. IPA’s Call for Unity in the Sport

The federation has urged state and regional bodies to work under IPA’s official framework.

The aim is to maintain integrity, transparency, and a unified system for the growth of pickleball in India.

6. Fans and Athletes Asked to Stay Alert

IPA is encouraging the community to verify the authenticity of any event through its official website or state units.

This step is crucial to ensure athletes don’t waste time and resources on invalid competitions.

Bottom Line: The IPA has made it clear — only events under its banner are legitimate. With pickleball’s popularity rising in india, the federation is determined to safeguard the sport from fraudulent associations and misleading tournaments.
