Sangeetha has been in politics for more than ten years, having won the 34th ward in sivakasi for the DMK. Sangita, the first mayor of sivakasi, exudes the personality and political aptitude required for the position. For the 'Hindu tamil Direction' series, I chatted with sivakasi Mayor Sangeetha. Here's how it went down:

* How did people react when sivakasi was named the city's first mayor?

"I was ecstatic. It was a delight for sivakasi, as the city's first mayor, to announce the appointment of a female mayor. I see this position as a chance to do good for the people."

* Have you been in politics for a long time...

"I've been a part in politics since 2005." After my marriage, I entered politics. Many members of my husband's family are politically active. Politicians are the ones who make the announcements. For the past 20 years, my husband has worked in politics. They were the ones that got me interested in politics."

* What do your neighbours have to say about the mayor?

"It merely came to our attention at the time." They are hoping that I will be able to meet all of their requirements. "I'll take care of it."
