Following the telangana High Court's directive, the Union Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) transferred the previous Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to Andhra Pradesh. A. Santhi Kumari, a senior IAS official, was named Telangana's Chief Secretary on Wednesday. Santhi Kumari, an indian Administrative service (IAS) officer from the 1989 batch, assumed leadership as Telangana's first female chief secretary as soon as she was appointed. She contacted chief minister K. chandrasekhar Rao after taking charge and thanked him for giving her the important task.

Prior to being appointed Chief Secretary, she held the position of Special Chief Secretary, Forest. She earned a postgraduate degree in marine biology, went on to earn an MBA in the United States, and spent two years working on UN programmes. She worked for three decades in the departments of Education, Health, Poverty Alleviation, Skill Development, and Forests, holding a variety of posts.

A day after Somesh Kumar was fired from the telangana government by the DoPT because the telangana High court had overturned the Central Administrative Tribunal's (CAT) 2016 decision to assign the officer to telangana, Santhi Kumari was appointed. Somesh Kumar was requested by the DoPT to join the andhra pradesh government by january 12 at the latest. On march 29, 2016, the hyderabad bench of the CAT issued a decision allocating Somesh Kumar to Telangana.
