The prisoner swallowed the mobile phone because he was afraid of the authorities!

An inmate in a jail in karnataka swallowed a mobile phone out of fear of the authorities.An inmate in Karnataka's Shivamogga Central Jail underwent surgery in Bengaluru due to severe abdominal pain. The doctors who performed the surgery removed the file containing the battery and SIM card. Now, under the karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act, 2022, the Superintendent of Shivamogga Central Jail has filed a complaint against the inmate for possession of a prohibited substance.

Parashuram from Shivamogga reported severe abdominal pain on march 28. He was treated at the prison hospital. As he continued to suffer pain, the authorities rushed him to the Meccan Hospital in Shivamogga.Later, as per doctor's advice, he was taken to Bengaluru Medical College, Bangalore. He was operated on on april 25. Assistant professor of Surgery Dr. Niaz ahmed told the authorities that a mobile phone was recovered from his stomach.

Bengaluru Central Jail officials sent the cell phone along with the battery and SIM from the inmate's stomach to Shivamogga Jail. As prison inmates are prohibited from having cell phones, the authorities filed a case against him. Parashuram is said to have swallowed the phone to avoid being caught by the authorities during a raid in the jail. It is common practice for the police to conduct frequent raids on the prison premises to check the possession of mobile phones, cannabis and other prohibited substances. Jail Superintendent Anita said, "A case has been registered against the prisoner at Dunga police station as he violated the rules."
