The congress chose to name party veteran leader Siddaramaiah as the new chief minister of karnataka and its state unit chairman D.K. Shivakumar as his deputy after three days of scheduled meetings.

According to party sources, congress President mallikarjun Kharge finally decided that Opposition leader of the Outgoing assembly Siddaramaiah will be chosen as the New chief minister of the Southern State and Shivakumar as the State's deputy chief minister after several rounds of meetings with the Senior party Leaders and the two karnataka leaders. The announcement will be made during the congress Legislature party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru on thursday at 7 p.m. The swearing-in event will take place on May 20 in Bengaluru, according to a party source.

The fact that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, two seasoned leaders, were competing for the position of state's top official presented a significant challenge for the Congress. The three central observers turned in their report of the CLP meeting and their secret ballot vote to Kharge on Monday. After multiple meetings with prominent figures, Kharge ultimately decided on Siddaramaiah as the future chief minister of karnataka during the nights between wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to the two karnataka leaders, Kharge had discussions with former party leader rahul Gandhi, party general secretary K.C. Venugopal, and party karnataka unit in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala since monday afternoon.
