After the building basements were drenched in rainfall, the government was forced to intervene, ordering the half-built structures to be demolished. This made the structures fragile and unsafe for the surrounding areas. Authorities ordered all neighboring residents and commercial establishments to vacate and relocate to safer locations in order to ensure that the demolition goes off without a hitch and that no one is injured.



According to Kunming Daily, more than 2,000 support workers were dispatched to build up to eight emergency crews, including on-site fire rescue teams, flood prevention crisis teams, and effective urban logistics teams. These structures were part of the incomplete Liyang Star City Phase II project, according to taiwan news, and were worth 1.2 billion Chinese yuan (US$155 million).
