Pon Manickavel, directed by debutant AC Mugil, is a typical cop action thriller with a few fascinating elements, such as the #MeToo theme, but delivers nothing fresh. It's predictable from the start, despite the director's best efforts to keep faithful to the plot and events. When a judge is murdered, tamil Nadu cops are stumped and unable to apprehend the perpetrator. So they recommend that our hero Pon Manickavel (Prabhu Deva), a deputy commissioner, take charge in a meeting.

However, when he takes up the matter, we see that he is uninterested. Slowly, we begin to suspect that the crooked system has offended or harmed him. Is Pon Manickavel capable of solving the case? As previously stated, Pon Manickavel might have been an interesting watch if it had been produced fifteen years ago, but it now appears to be too old, as we have watched so many cop action movies. The heroic exaltation falls flat, and the romance aspect between prabhu deva and nivetha pethuraj becomes repetitive as well.

For the first time, prabhu deva portrays a cop, yet he is miscast in the role, despite his best efforts to shed his regular mannerisms and body language. nivetha Pethuraj, suresh Chandra Menon, and sudhanshu pandey are among the other actors that are not up to par in the film. The music by Imman is absolutely functional, and the photography by KG venkatesh is suitable for a template commercial film. To summarise, Pon Manickavel is a typical cop-action thriller that can easily be seen on OTT over the weekend.
