Jaya Prada, who joined the bjp in 2019, said that because she is now in the party's Uttar Pradesh cadre, the decision on whether she should run for office in telangana or andhra pradesh must be made by the party's elders. The actress stated that she would approach the concerned party panel and request permission to run for office in telugu states. During the last 28 years of her political career, Jaya Prada, who is from rajahmundry in andhra pradesh, has switched parties multiple times.

She began her political career in 1994, when she joined the telugu desam party (TDP) at the request of party founder N.T. Rama Rao. When chandrababu naidu staged a mutiny against his father-in-law N.T. Rama Rao and became the chief minister of andhra pradesh in 1995, she endorsed him. In 1996, Naidu appointed Jaya Prada as the leader of the party's women's section and a member of the Rajya Sabha. When Naidu appointed another actress, Roja, as chief of the women's wing, tensions between them arose. During the last 28 years of her political career, she has switched parties multiple times.

She later joined the Samajwadi party (SP) upon amar singh and Mulayam Singh's request. In 2004, she was elected to the lok sabha from Rampur, and in 2009, she was re-elected. After amar singh revolted against Mulayam Singh, Jaya Prada joined with him. After being expelled from the SP in 2010, she joined amar Singh's Rashtriya Lok Manch. However, the party was unable to make an impression in Uttar Pradesh, and amar singh was forced to retire from politics due to his sickness. According to Jaya Prada's recent comments, she may be interested in running for rajahmundry in the 2024 elections.
