World Food Safety Day:Things to keep in mind..?

The goal of World Food Safety Day is to increase public awareness of the importance of food safety and the need to prevent foodborne illnesses, which impact 1 in 10 people worldwide every year. Nearly 420,000 people die each year and 16 million diseases are attributed to unsafe food.

Every year on june 7, the goal of World Food Safety Day is to raise awareness of the importance of food safety and the problems that might result from ingesting contaminated food. World Food Safety Day is observed jointly by the World health Organisation and the Food and Agriculture Organisation in an effort to reduce the risk of foodborne illness, promote food security, and improve public health.

The first World Food Safety Day was observed on june 7, 2019, following its establishment by a resolution passed by the UN General assembly the year prior. The Kingdom of the netherlands put forth the idea, and a total of 44 nations co-sponsored it.

According to the WHO, 1 in 10 people worldwide contract a foodborne illness each year, and a daily average of 16,00,000 individuals fall ill as a result of consuming contaminated food. According to UN statistics, almost 4,20,000 people per year die from foodborne illnesses, with 1,25,000 of those fatalities occurring in children.

More than 200 food-borne diseases are caused by contaminated food that contains bacteria, viruses, and parasites, according to the WHO. By using proper handling, storage, processing, and hygiene procedures, these infections can be avoided.
