"We are at war, and we will continue the war," he told reporters. "We will continue until we achieve all our goals."
The Israeli cabinet was set to decide on a deal that would temporarily suspend Israel's attack in Gaza in exchange for the release of around 50 of the 240 captives held by Hamas. israel has threatened to keep fighting until Hamas' military capabilities are destroyed and all captives are returned. The cabinet meeting lasted till early wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Hamas projected that a settlement brokered by qatar will be struck in "the coming hours."
Netanyahu admitted that the cabinet was presented with a dilemma, but he believed that supporting the cease-fire was the correct thing to do. Despite resistance from certain hardline ministers, Netanyahu looked to have enough backing to approve the bill.
Netanyahu stated that intelligence activities would be continued during the quiet, allowing the army to prepare for the next stages of the conflict. He stated that the fighting would continue until "Gaza will not threaten Israel."
The declaration came as Israeli soldiers fought Palestinian terrorists in an urban refugee camp in northern Gaza, as well as outside hospitals that were overloaded with patients and families seeking protection.
The predicted cease-fire agreement was not made public. According to Israeli media, an arrangement would entail a five-day pause in Israel's attack in Gaza and the release of 50 Hamas captives in return for 150 Palestinian inmates detained by Israel. According to Israel's Channel 12 TV, the initial releases will take place on thursday or friday and will last several days.
The talks have constantly come to a halt. Even if a settlement is achieved, it would not spell the end of the battle, which began on Oct. 7 when Hamas terrorists poured across the border into southern israel, killing at least 1,200 people, the majority of whom were civilians, and kidnapping 240 more.
