The tamil Nadu government has stated that schools and institutions in the chennai district would stay closed on friday (December 8) owing to relief activities in regions impacted by the rain. Due to the tremendous rains brought by Cyclone Michaung in the previous several days, some areas in chennai remained waterlogged. In the city, at least 20 individuals have been killed in rain-related events. On Tuesday, the cyclonic storm made landfall in coastal andhra pradesh and deteriorated into a deep depression. As it moves farther north, the system is expected to evaporate.

On friday, the india Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a new round of rain with isolated heavy showers over south peninsular india on december 8 and 9. "Light to moderate rainfall at some places with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over kerala and Mahe during the next 5 days and over tamil Nadu, puducherry & Karaikal and lakshadweep during the next 3 days," the Meteorological Society of india said.

Rainfall is expected, according to the regional meteorological center in Chennai. Heavy rain is expected in one or two locations in the coimbatore districts' Nilgiris and Ghat regions. "Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Nilgiris, coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, chennai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai and thanjavur districts," the report said.
