While running for this year's student union elections, Satyam Surana, an indian student at the london School of economics (LSE), claims he was singled out and referred to as a "fascist." Satyam made headlines last year when, in the midst of a Khalistani attack on the indian High Commission in the United Kingdom, he boldly picked up a Tricolour from the ground.

Satyam, who was born in Pune, claimed in an interview with news agency ANI that a campaign was started against him just hours before the student union elections were to be held. Additionally, he said that his opponents boycotted him because they connected him to the bjp and called him a "fascist."

Satyam elaborated on the course of events, stating that he filed his nomination for the position of general secretary after the london School of economics elections were announced in february and early march of this year.

We became aware that my posters were being damaged and pulled off between march 14 and 15. We lodged a complaint with the relevant authorities. On the sixteenth, after we had changed our posters, we noticed that several of them had been vandalised. 'Anyone but Satyam' was inscribed in crosses on my face. I got cancelled," stated Satyam.

"Messages stating that Satyam Surana is a fascist, Islamophobe, and transphobe were posted in all LSE groups on the afternoon of the 17th. The student said that the remarks were extremely divisive and seditious towards the indian government and the existing system.
