A hyderabad eatery was ordered to reimburse a patron for the mandatory service charges and lack of free drinking water. The eatery was directed to provide the complaint Rs. 5,000 by the district Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission-III.

Hyderabad restaurant sold a 500-ml water bottle for Rs 50
The secunderabad homeowner who filed the complaint said that despite his obvious signs of having a plastic material allergy, the employees at the hyderabad eatery had neglected to give him free drinking water. He was forced to buy water from the restaurant and expressed his dissatisfaction over the Rs 50 price tag for a 500 ml water bottle. Even though the MA&UD department of the telangana government mandated in 2023 that all cafes and businesses guarantee the supply of free drinking water, this event still happened.

The eatery further imposed mandatory service costs. Following a review of the information, the commission directed the hyderabad eatery to reimburse the service fees, compensate the restaurant for not providing free drinking water by Rs 5,000, and pay Rs 1000 towards legal fees.

Rs 10K compensation to customer
In a related instance that occurred recently, the complainant ordered that a different eatery in the city and meal delivery service Swiggy pay Rs 10,000 for bringing "non-vegetarian" food to a vegetarian.

The hyderabad eatery refuted the accusations throughout the court, saying that the vegetarian special roll had soya shammi kebab, paneer burji, and mushrooms.

Nevertheless, the commission determined that the images depicted chunks of chicken in the roll after reviewing the information provided by the complaint.
