In fact, Amritpal Singh's lawyer claimed on wednesday (April 24) that he will contest the lok sabha elections as an independent candidate from the Khadur Sahib seat of Punjab.

Amritpal Singh's family members met him on thursday (April 25). According to officials, Amritpal Singh's father Tarsem Singh, uncle Sukhchain Singh, wife Kirandeep Kaur and other relatives reached Dibrugarh in the morning. Later some of them went to Dibrugarh Central Jail to meet Amritpal. Officials said that Amritpal's family members were thoroughly security checked at the gate and the documents with them were also checked by Assistant Jailor Nayan Jyoti Dutta.

Amritpal Singh, head of the ‘Waris punjab De’ organisation, was arrested in april last year and the stringent National Security Act (NSA) was imposed against him. Khalsa had claimed, "Today I met Bhai Saheb (Amritpal Singh) in Dibrugarh Central Jail and during the meeting, I requested him that in the interest of the 'Khalsa Panth', he should be allowed to go to Khadur to become a Member of parliament this time. Should contest elections from Sahib. Bhai Saheb accepted my request in the interest of the Panth… He will contest the elections as an independent candidate.”
