He said, 'I think this same vibe has come into the film as well. It is also getting the same response as his songs and his Akharas used to get. He said, initially during the research, I was talking to many people associated with Chamkila and traveling to the interior parts of Punjab. The 1980s are still alive there. Imtiaz said, 'This is a true life story, so I decided that as far as possible, I will not manipulate the events that are being narrated to me.'


Imtiaz ali said, 'The real reason for making the film was that Chamkila's life was like the life of punjab, which has both glory and violence. They stay with each other all the time. There is a different feeling there. There is always blood flowing, yet so much emotion and celebration. I did not want to bore the audience by telling about what punjab is. He told that Chamkila's family and people of punjab kept reaching him with photographs of the late singer. They decided to put some real videos and pictures on the screen to show Chamkila and Amarjot performing.
