In the Chengalpattu district, close to Chennai, a terrible traffic accident in Thiruporur claimed the lives of five ladies. Before the police arrived at the scene, the two young people were seized and beaten by the local villagers shortly after the accident.

A top police official told TNIE, "Prima facie, the two arrested men, who are college students, did not appear to be drunk but we have sent them for a medical examination to be certain."

According to the police, four people attended a private college close to Thiruporur, including the two people who were detained, Ahmed (20) and Joshua (19), who were operating the vehicle. After racing to the scene, Chengalpattu district police arrested the two males. For a postmortem, the deceased's remains were delivered to Chengalpattu government Hospital.

In the meantime, a group of Payanoor locals protested and prevented the police car from leaving the area, calling for prompt and harsh punishment for those inside. The people also called for financial support for the deceased's relatives. According to a police official, the police dispersed the gathering and assured them that their requests would be granted.
