The problem of insomnia is increasing worldwide. Workload, pressures in personal life, financial problems, changes in our lifestyle, diet, smartphones, and many other things are said to be the causes of insomnia. It has been revealed that this problem of insomnia is currently causing a kind of division between couples. Most indian couples prefer to sleep separately. The reason for this is the need for a peaceful sleep.
In most homes, both husband and wife go to work. They work tirelessly to get to the next level in their job and get a promotion and a salary increase. Due to this, they come home feeling depressed. For some couples, it becomes a shift for the husband and the wife. Therefore, husband and wife prefer to sleep separately at night in order to sleep peacefully. This is called Sleep Divorce in English.
The Global Sleep survey for the year 2025 says that the trend of Sleep divorce is increasing among couples in India. This study says that more than 70 percent of couples from india prefer to sleep separately. They have answered that they sleep separately from their partners because they are under various stress and excitement throughout the day. Many say that their sleep quality has improved due to this. The reasons for sleeping separately include the husband snoring, breathing loudly, going to bed at different times after working different shifts, and checking his phone.
The survey was conducted on 30,000 couples from 13 cities in india and the results have been released. This is similar to a survey conducted in the US and UK, where 50 percent of couples said they always sleep together, and 50 percent said they sleep separately only one or two days a week. However, experts say that sleeping separately is a dangerous trend for couples. When couples sleep together, the love hormone oxytocin is secreted between them. This hormone has the ability to reduce our stress, depression, tension, and anxiety.

Sleep is important for our physical health, and for that, couples deciding to sleep separately is seen as a temporary solution. However, mental health experts say that the main cause of insomnia, including stress, should be identified and corrected.
