Rewrites are nothing new for Marvel, and this week's debut of Thunderbolts* is no different.  But unlike other movies in the MCU, the next movie has a fascinating link to a classic action movie.  Jake Schreier, the film's director, discussed the movie's inspirations and its relationship to john McClane in an interview with GamesRadar+.

Instead of being pulled together by a particularly resolute Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), the vault would have served as the original meeting spot for every member of the titular team.  Die Hard is all about trying to figure out how to get out of a confined space.  As the most reluctant hero anyone could hope for, Bruce Willis rose to fame as an action star.  Even while this concept would have been entertaining, the production's final choice had advantages as well.

The emotional state of Black Widow Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) is anticipated to be the main focus of Thunderbolts*.  The assassin is obviously in a bad place as she copes with the loss of her sister, Natasha (Scarlett Johansson).  Behind-the-scenes creatives also gave Lewis Pullman, who starred in Salem's Lot, additional background information on the character of Bob.  According to Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts*, the strong character Sentry's first appearance in the MCU, required more development than what was initially written.

That's all the filmmaker could say about the upcoming movie, in typical Marvel fashion.  The comics' renownedly intricate and occasionally tragic narrative around Bob and his alter identity raises many questions about how Thunderbolts* will handle him.  When the universe is involved, practically anything is possible, but fans won't know the character's specifics until the movie comes out.  On May 2, 2025, Thunderbolts* will be released in theaters.
