The maharashtra government declared on tuesday that all-electric buses and four-wheeler passenger vehicles will not be required to pay tolls on certain of the state's main highways to encourage clean mobility. At a state cabinet meeting on tuesday in Mumbai, the decision was made.

According to the officials, it was agreed that electric vehicles will not be required to pay tolls on the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Hindu Hrudaysamrat balasaheb Thackeray Expressway), the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, or Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link). According to the Public Works Department (PWD) of maharashtra, electric vehicles would be eligible for a 50% toll discount on other state and national highways.

"The decision is aimed to encourage the use of electric vehicles and reducing pollution by promoting clean and sustainable transport in the state," a spokesperson stated.

Additionally, the maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy, 2025, was approved by the state cabinet.  The state government has decided that all-electric vehicles sold and registered in maharashtra will be exempt from motor vehicle tax and registration certificate or renewal fees and that discounts will be offered on vehicle purchases until 2030 as part of the policy, which aims to promote green mobility and encourage the use of electric vehicles. In addition, the state government has announced a toll waiver concession.

"A 10% reduction will be applied to the initial cost of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers (non-transport), buses of state transport undertakings, and private, state/urban transport undertakings," according to a statement released by the office of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
