India's former permanent representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin said that Pakistan's efforts in the United Nations Security Council have completely failed because it has no support on the international platform. It only pretends and the world does not take its words seriously.
India's former permanent representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin on Tuesday reacted strongly to the closed-door meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Kashmir. He said Pakistan's real position in the international community today is that no country takes its words seriously and neither does its threat of attack on nuclear weapons and suspension of the Indus Water Treaty have any effect on India.
Akbaruddin said Pakistan's attempt to attract the world's attention by using multilateral organizations is not new. We have seen it many times. This time for the first time in 60 years, it tried to present an agenda that was never discussed before. That is the India-Pakistan question. The last formal discussion on the India-Pakistan question was in 1965. pakistan thought that through this it could bring the India-Pakistan issue back to the international forum and make it a topic of discussion. But it was only a pretense.
The former diplomat said pakistan focuses more on public diplomacy. It uses these forums to improve the image of its country, not for serious talks at the international level. That is why its attempt failed. Pretense did not work. The Security Council did not accept its case at all. He said, this is a big setback for pakistan, which was working on this issue with 15 countries for months. Then it came to know that what it wants is not being accepted.
Akbaruddin said that the Security Council works in this way... first, the proposal comes, then the presidential statement comes, then the press statement, and finally the head of the Security Council says something verbally to the press. None of these four things happened after this meeting. This means that whatever efforts pakistan made, it failed. You can see that Pakistan's efforts had no effect. Despite so many efforts, they did not get any support.
He said, what was to happen, happened - there is no surprise in this. He said that he knew beforehand that pakistan would not get any support because in today's world Pakistan is not considered a serious and trustworthy country. Everyone knows that Pakistan's efforts are only for show and publicity, not for any serious dialogue or solution. It just wants to speak on the stage, but is not interested in real talks.
He also reacted to china supporting Pakistan's demand for an investigation into the pahalgam terrorist attack. Akbaruddin said this is a game that pakistan plays regularly. This is a game in which it falters. This is a game in which its only evergreen friend is China. But the rest of the world has moved on, it recognizes pakistan for what it is.
