Ram Gopal varma, once hailed as a visionary filmmaker for his pathbreaking works like satya and Company, has in recent years cultivated notoriety more for his incendiary social media persona than for his cinematic contributions. Known for his unfiltered commentary, varma frequently courts controversy by making provocative and often distasteful remarks—especially when it comes to women. This pattern of behavior was once again on display following the release of the teaser for war 2, the much-anticipated action film starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and kiara Advani.

In a now-deleted post on X, varma shared a still of kiara advani clad in a bikini, prominently showing her back, and made a crude comment suggesting that the film would be more successful if the male leads were fighting over her body rather than for patriotic reasons. He wrote: “Instead of for countries and societies, if the war between @iHrithik and #tarak9999 is on who gets her BACK, then 2 will be a Backbuster (sic).” The comment, clearly intended as a pun, was widely condemned for reducing a female actor to a sexual object and trivializing the film's plot and characters. Many social media users and public commentators accused varma of perpetuating misogyny and disrespect toward women in the industry.

Facing mounting criticism and backlash, varma quietly deleted the post without issuing an apology or clarification. His silence has further fueled public outrage, with critics noting that this is not the first time the filmmaker has crossed the line with his commentary. While varma has previously defended his right to free expression, many argue that his recurring objectification of women reflects deeper issues within parts of the film industry. The incident has reignited discussions about the responsibility of public figures to maintain decorum online and the need to challenge entrenched sexist attitudes in indian cinema.
