The seven-month postponement of Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday is more of a benefit than a drawback.  The first crossover movie in Phase 6, which comes seven years after Avengers: Endgame, features the return of MCU directors Joe and Anthony Russo and Robert Downey Jr., who will play doctor Doom, the Avengers' next great evil.  Avengers: Infinity war and Avengers: Endgame were major cinematic events, and the MCU's upcoming Avengers: Doomsday promises to rekindle that excitement with an even bigger cast and heavier stakes.

One year will separate the release dates of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.  They were previously planned for May 2026 and May 2027, respectively.  It has now been decided to postpone the Phase 6 Avengers films until december 2026 and december 2027, respectively.  However, despite first appearing particularly disappointing, Avengers: Doomsday's seven-month delay actually benefits the film in a number of ways, including both quality and box money potential.

In order to allow for a year for production and post-production before its scheduled May 2026 release, Avengers: Doomsday began filming in april 2025.  Given that the film's marketing had to begin considerably earlier than May, this window was probably significantly smaller.  The extra seven months provide Avengers: Doomsday much-needed time for more material, better reshoots, and better visuals. In order to ensure a successful december 2026 release, Marvel Studios and the Russo Brothers can also use the postponement to polish the script and schedule reshoots.

Compared to Avengers: Infinity war and Avengers: Endgame, both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars appear to be even more significant crossover events.  Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars promise unprecedented scale in the MCU and the sci-fi genre overall with their enormous scope, unrivaled ensemble casts, and connections to dozens of prior movies and television shows.

The thirty-eight-character final showdown in Avengers: Endgame may set a record, but Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars might likely surpass it.  For a production of this size to fulfill the high standards and produce a polished end result, it takes well over a year from production to release.
