Rama Rao and chiranjeevi became superstars in Telugu. amitabh bachchan is the reason for all of them becoming superstars. director ram gopal varma has said that they became superstars by remaking Amitabh's films. Recently, varma spoke about the impact of remakes in indian cinema. He said that in the 70s and 80s, South indian cinema remade films starring amitabh bachchan, and through this, superstars like Rajinikanth, chiranjeevi, N.T. Rama Rao and Rajkumar emerged.
He said that these remakes made their films very popular and made them superstars. He mentioned that during that time, South indian cinema made masala films based on Amitabh's films. varma opined that bollywood directors are heavily influenced by foreign cinema and that it played a major role in their growth. He said that South indian directors are connected to their culture and language and they have a good relationship with their fans. varma recalled a comment made by a bollywood producer about the film `Pushpa: The Rise`. The producer had said, ``North indian fans will vomit if they see this person's face,'' and varma said that this was not directed at allu arjun personally, but at his character.
However, he said that `Pushpa` and `Pushpa 2` have collected over Rs. 2000 crore worldwide and that the producer was wrong. He said that bollywood directors cannot make films like `Pushpa` because their emotions and ideas do not suit the stories, while South indian directors have a good rapport with their language, culture, and people, and they make films knowing the pulse of their fans.
