
A case of gang rape of a student came to light on june 25 at South calcutta Law college in Kolkata. Police arrested three accused on the complaint of the victim.
Kolkata Law college Rape Case
A case of gang rape of a student has come to light inside South kolkata Law college located in Kasba area of South Kolkata. According to the police, the incident took place on the college campus between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on june 25. An FIR has been registered at Kasba police station on the complaint of the victim and an investigation has been started. Three accused have been arrested in this case, including one former student and two current students.
Accused identified
The arrested accused have been identified as Monojit Mishra (31 years), who was the former unit president of the college, Zaib Ahmed (19 years), and Pramit Mukherjee alias Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20 years). Mishra and Ahmed were arrested near Talbagan crossing on the evening of june 26. Pramit was arrested from his house at 12:30 am on june 27. mobile phones of all three have also been seized. The court has sent all three accused to 5-day police custody.
The incident took place on the college campus itself.
According to police sources, this alleged gang rape incident took place inside the college building itself. The victim has been given a preliminary medical examination and statements of several witnesses have been recorded. The scene has been secured and now the forensic investigation is awaited.
All three accused presented in court, and police custody was approved till Tuesday
All three arrested accused were produced in Alipore court on Thursday. The police had demanded 14 days of custody, but the court ordered them to be sent to police custody till next Tuesday.
Sharp attack by the opposition on the mamata government
The leader of Opposition in the West bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari targeted the government over this incident. He said, "The entire kolkata police has been sent to Digha for the Rath Yatra. The chief minister no longer has the right to remain in his post. We will raise this issue."
BJP leader amit Malviya's allegation - 'A person associated with TMC is also involved'
BJP IT cell chief amit Malviya called the incident "horrific" and said that former students and two college staff are involved in it. He claimed that a trinamool congress member may also have a role in this matter. He accused West bengal of becoming a "nightmare" for women.
What did Mayor Firhad Hakim say
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim called the incident "extremely serious". He said that he does not have full information about the case yet, but he will state it after receiving the report from the police.
