In response to a query from opposition mla Arif Masood, the administration revealed that 7,418 rape crimes against women from SC/ST tribes were reported between 2022 and 2024.
Over the previous three years, this equates to an average of seven Dalit or Adivasi women being raped in the state each day.
Additionally, the statistics showed that 338 women from these communities were gang-raped within the same time period, and 558 women were murdered.
The data also presents a disturbing image of sexual harassment and domestic abuse.
Up to 1,906 SC/ST women experienced domestic abuse, which means that almost two of these women were abused in their own homes on a daily basis.
Furthermore, 5,983 molestation cases were recorded, meaning that around five SC/ST women experienced sexual harassment per day.
Over the past three years, there have been 44,978 registered crimes against SC/ST women, which translates to an average of 41 offenses per day against these marginalized groups in Madhya Pradesh.
Together, SCs and STs make up about 38% of Madhya Pradesh's population, with 22% being st and 16% being SC.
